Frequently Asked Questions

What basically happens when I have extensions put on?
Extensions are applied to your natural lashes using a bonding agent (glue) to make your lashes appear thicker and longer.

What are the extensions made of?
The extensions are made from a synthetic nylon which has very little chance of causing an allergic reaction because in essence it is like a plastic nail tip. (I don't know the exact science behind it but I have up until now never come across anyone who has been allergic to the actual extensions)

Why are they called semi permanent?
Well, temporary lashes refer to those you buy from Dischem which come off later that day or if you are lucky after a few sleeps. Semi permanent means it would last a couple of months if your natural lashes did not fall out naturally every couple of weeks. And just to be clear...yes you can get permanent new lashes, I wouldn't advise it unless you feel like your livelyhood is dependant on it. For more details on that you can look up eyelash implants.

When anyone talks about Eyelash Extensions they are generally refering to the semi-permanent individually applied lashes.

Does it hurt to have extensions put on?
Not at all! It is actually very relaxing and I often have clients falling asleep during the procedure.

How long does application take?
A full set (which is a complete new set) can take between 1-2 hours depending on how many natural lashes you have and whether they are unruly or not. For a fill you will have to check with you technician. Personally I have a couple of options as I have some clients who prefer sorter more regular fills.

How often do I need to have them filled?
The frequency of your fills will be completely up to you. Some people have their lashes filled every 2 weeks and some do it every 6-8 weeks. There are several things that can effect your decision so do it as you see fit. There is no hard and fast wrong or right.

Can they get wet?
Yes, Absolutely! and maybe even please! You will need to keep your lashes clean. If you are wearing makeup during the day you need to make sure that you are cleaning the makeup and daily grime off as a buildup can cause an unecessary over growth of bacteria which is all kinds of unpopular. Check out the after care instructions for more details

Can I wear mascara?
Yes you can although this will not be necessary, but if you want to you can. Just be aware that unless you are using a mascara specifically designed for extensions the lifespan of your extensions can be reduced. If you want to wear mascara for a function shortly after the application it is best to first check with your technician as salons use different bonding agents and each has a different curing time.

Which cleanser should I use for my extensions?
If you are wearing makeup I would suggest you try using the Lash Care Protein and Makeup remover before you wash your lashes. It was specifically formulated for use with your extensions and is non irrirating. After that and if you can simply wash it with any gel or foam cleanser as long as it doesn't contain oils.

Will my natural lashes break?
The dead honest answer is yes. But not as much as you think. Breakage is majorly dependent on how rough you are with them (assuming of course that there isn't a bigger problem like bad application) You can also use a lovely and highly recommended product called Longer Life Coating Sealer which keeps the bond between the natural lash and the extension soft and supple and repels makeup and sweat which can weaken the bonding.

What if I want them off?
Removing the extensions is very easy but while you can try to remove them yourself with baby oil or olive oil it is not a guarenteed method it is advisable to go back to the salon that did your lashes or another salon that offers extensions. It takes approx. 10 mins in total to remove the extensions.
